Plugin Portable Car Heater
Look at customer reviews on just about any site that sells a plug-in portable car heater, and you wlll find low ratings and complaints of "not enough heat."
Guess what else you'll usually find? Five-star ratings from people who are just so happy they were able to defrost the windshield and get to work. And, having personally experienced an ancient Hyundai with a bypassed heater core, I can tell you that it's pretty nice to be able to get to that all-important client meeting when it's sleeting outside. Sure, I would have liked to arrive all toasty-warm. But mainly...I just wanted to arrive.
So why the wide range of opinion?
What to make of these side variations in customer satisfaction? I really do think this is all about expectations. Of course, when you are cold, you want...HEAT. But the thing is, if you're just trying to figure out a solution that will allow you to drive to work and back in the snowy, icy weather, guess what?
A 12-volt plug-in portable car heater is a pretty amazing and cheap solution! They all work pretty much the same way, and they all draw about the same (small) amount of power from the cigarette lighter socket. The variations in these devices have to do with design and safety.
